Our Team

Terry Bertram

Terry Bertram

Attorney & Counselor

I have been providing estate planning and elder law for Southeastern Michigan clients since 1985. During my 24 years of practice, I have been able to reach hundreds of people who are concerned about protecting their families from the devastating legal and financial effects of disability and death. The aspect of my practice I enjoy most is that it allows me to be the trusted advisor and counselor for many families in the greater Ann Arbor area.

Our firm is staffed with experienced individuals trained in the complex areas of Probate, Trust, Medicaid, and tax law. The aim of each member of the law firm is to help you accomplish your goals and to take the mystery out of the planning process. When you work with our office, your estate planning documents will be explained in a straightforward language you and your family can understand. If you take advantage of our services, your loved ones will be relieved of needless attorney's fees and government interference in settling your estate. But most importantly, you will have peace of mind knowing your loved ones are protected.

I grew up the middle child of seven brothers in Traverse City. I came to Ann Arbor to go to the University of Michigan and never left. I now live in Pittsfield Township. Like many of my fellow Ann Arborites, I am an avid Michigan Football fan. I am a widower with two daughters. My youngest, Chelsea, is a junior at Michigan State University and her older sister, Murphy, is married to Zak and works with me at the office. For fun, I enjoy being involved in my community. I have been appointed to various boards and commissions by Governors, City Council, Board of Trustees and Boards of Education. Currently, I serve as the attorney for the Pittsfield Seniors-the largest senior program in Washtenaw County.

Rosemary Frenza

Rosemary J. Frenza

Attorney & Mediator

I have been providing estate planning and mediation services to clients in Michigan since 2008. In addition to serving private clients, I serve as court-appointed counsel for the Washtenaw County Probate Court in Guardianship, Conservatorship, Mental Health and Developmental Disability cases, and also serve as a Guardian ad Litem. After working as a solo practitioner, I am excited to practice probate and elder law with The Legacy Law Center, because my goal as an attorney is to help families in need create a sense of security and peace about their future care.

I am an Ann Arbor native. I graduated from Michigan State University in 1997, and Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2006. I hold law licenses in both Michigan and Illinois. After 10 years of city living in Chicago, I decided to return to Ann Arbor and start a meaningful practice and community involvement in the southeastern Michigan area that is my true home.

I am a former law clerk to Judges Nancy C. Francis and Darlene A. O’Brien in the Washtenaw County Family and Probate Courts. I am also the current Secretary of the Board of the Washtenaw Regional Chapter of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan. I am serving my second year as co-Chair of the Family Law Section of the Washtenaw County Bar Association, and I serve on the Board of Directors of The Wellness Community of Southeast Michigan, a non-profit organization offering psycho-social support to people touched by cancer and their loved ones. I recently joined the Executive Committee of The Wellness Community as Secretary. I am also involved with Ann Arbor Active Against ALS, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Finally, I am the author of frequent articles on legal marketing in various publications.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, watching movies, hiking, dance classes, swimming, and cooking and sharing meals with my friends and my large extended family.

John Arenz

John L. Arenz

Attorney & Counselor

I was born and raised in Marquette, Michigan. As the son of educators, I am naturally curious about my surroundings and the pursuit of knowledge. My mother taught elementary education, and my father served both as a teacher and a principal for forty years in elementary education. My parents taught me patience, perseverance, and to aspire. Because my father was forty-nine years old when I was born, and is now in his late seventies, I am accustomed to relating to the generations above me. I offer a unique, small town customer service oriented attitude with a focus on delivery of big city expectations.

I am a 2005 magna cum laude graduate of Northern Michigan University, and a 2008 graduate of Michigan State University College of Law. I have been practicing elder law and estate planning since 2008. In law school I earned the Jurisprudence Achievement Award in Mediation Advocacy, finishing first in my class. I was also a Senator in the Student Bar Association. I bring additional experience clerking for two 25th Circuit Court Judges, and assisting Governor Jennifer M. Granholm as her law clerk on energy policy between 2005 and 2008. I am a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and a recipient of the Probate & Estate Planning Certificate awarded by the State Bar of Michigan and the Institute of Continuing Legal Education. I am also a member of the probate and estate planning section, and the elder law and disability rights section of the State Bar.

I moved from Marquette to Ann Arbor to be with my fiancé, Barbara, who is attending the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. My other interests include: health and fitness; multimedia; technology; and Barbara's special recipe oatmeal-chocolate chip cookies.

I am most looking forward to assisting our clients with their long-term care and estate planning needs. I am privileged to continue the Legacy Law Center's tradition of providing excellent elder care services.
