Mediation and the Role of the Mediator
A mediator is a neutral third party who attempts to facilitate an agreement between two or more parties in a legal dispute in order to help the parties avoid litigation. A mediator does not act as an attorney for either party and does not provide legal advice to either party.
As a mediator, Rosemary J. Frenza meets with both sides individually and then conducts at least one group meeting. The benefits of mediation can be significant:
- Mediation can dramatically reduce legal costs by helping the parties avoid protracted litigation.
- The mediator can facilitate communication as an impartial third party.
- Mediation is not a matter of public record.
- It gives parties that are subject to a dispute greater control over the outcome of their case.
